How to Auto-Generate Answers and Solutions for Questions Missing Them
Not every source PDF has a complete answer key. Here's how AI-assisted solving works, and how to tell AI-generated answers from source-verified ones.
The gap a lot of source material has
It's common for a practice-question PDF to have questions and options but no answer key at all, or an answer key with no explanation attached — useful for a printed worksheet where a teacher walks through solutions live, but a real gap once you're trying to build a self-contained digital question bank.
Filling the gap without guessing
Test Formater can solve a question itself when the source material doesn't already state an answer — actually working through the problem rather than pattern-matching to a plausible-looking option. This is opt-in, on by default, and can be turned off entirely if you'd rather have those specific questions come back unanswered for manual review instead.
Answer and solution are handled as two independent toggles: you can ask for AI to fill in a missing answer while leaving the explanation blank (or vice versa), which matters if you only need a graded answer key without full worked solutions, or the other way round.
Knowing which is which
Every extracted question internally tracks whether its answer and its solution actually came from the source document or were solved by AI — so even after export, it's possible to know which questions had a verified answer in the original material and which were AI-derived, rather than the two looking identical in the final file.
